If you’re 65 or older or experiencing homelessness, or you know people in Oregon who are, OHA needs your help.
Please remind those you know that time is running out for people to protect their Oregon Health Plan (OHP) and other Medicaid benefits. Since April, OHP members have been sent letters about this, and while some members are keeping their benefits with no action required, other members must take action to keep their benefits. The letters contain instructions to renew benefits for OHP, Medicare Savings Programs, and Medicaid Long-Term services and supports.
Learn what to do if you receive a letter here.
The good news is 85% of OHP members have kept their benefits since the renewal process began in April. In fact, Oregon has the third-highest rate of keeping people on Medicaid, according to the latest analysis by KFF, a nonpartisan health policy organization.
However, many members are at risk of losing coverage because they haven’t responded to their renewal letters. A high number of these members are age 65+ or experiencing homelessness.
The last wave of renewal letters are scheduled to go out in January 2024.
How to help OHP members keep their coverage
Tips for OHP members (and their family, friends and caregivers):
- When you get a renewal letter, here’s how to get help:
- Call 800-699-9075, weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Find an office or community organization near you for help.
- Renew online here. (English and Spanish only)
- Use the ONE mobile app. If you receive a “request for information” letter, you can respond in the app. (English and Spanish only)
- Keep your address up to date with OHP.
- Check the mail for your renewal letter and do what it tells you to do as soon as possible. If you’re concerned that you missed your letter, call 800-699-9075, weekdays, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., or log into your ONE account and look for a message that says, “Notice about your Medical Eligibility.”
- You can re-apply for OHP at any time. If you received a letter but didn’t respond, and you later found out you lost your benefits, you can re-apply. If you’re still eligible, OHP can reopen your benefits within 90 days without a new application.
- If you recently turned 65 and obtained Medicare coverage, you may still be eligible for OHP or for help paying for Medicare. Carrying both Medicare and OHP can help lower your overall health care costs.
